*SLEEP TIP* Cognitive developments.
Often around the age of 18-24 months of age, a major cognitive development occurs.
A sure sign that it is happening is that there is A LOT of talking - you can't make out exactly what he is saying of course, however there is a lot of 'talk'. Lots of repetition of words, squeals, and generally a lot of noise will be happening.
Sleep will tend to take a back seat as this development is playing out. You may get some days where those glorious long day naps suddenly don't happen at all! Or your toddler is taking a long time to fall asleep at bedtime.
Don't worry! It is just a temporary set back.
The best way to handle it is to up the physical exercise in the late morning and late afternoon. Push back nap time a little (around 1pm) as well as bedtime (no later than 7:30pm).
After a few weeks, revert back to your usual schedule as the novelty of the new development will have worn off.
